Collagen is the fundamental component of the skin lying just under the epidermis, the outermost or surface layer of the skin. This is where the loss of elasticity becomes apparent as the aging process reduces collagen levels. Collagen becomes “chaotic” and uneven, creating wrinkles and laxity of surface skin.
